During the summer months, June through August Copper Mine Picture Cafe will host a group show by its regular gallery artists and invited guest artists. The show includes a variety of mediums and styles. Although "theme shows," sometimes are difficult to coordinate, nonetheless the gallery will put together a group of works under the umbrella theme of "equipmental truth," a Heideggarian term that explores the aesthetics of truth in the origins of a work of art. His famous discussion of Van Gogh's "Peasant Shoes," found in essay, "The Origin of the Work of Art," in his "Basic Writings," associates a kind of depth truth that goes beyond the surface layer of paint, and into a "lighting of Being." Artist were invited to show works that might show some of the same "equipmental truth" that Heidegger saw in Van Gogh's "Peasant Shoes."

One will therefore see in the works shown, a certain connectedness to the subject matter by the artist. For example, Ida Padilla has done a beautiful pencil sketch of her daughters' baby shoes from over forty years ago, while Bill Coates has a few treasureable photos of his daughter and their dog running through a field some years back during a lovely summer day. In total all the works present a certain and yet different view point to the show's theme, and in doing so, they explore the many layers of possibility that the phrase, "equipmental truth' opens up.
