Mark Chaidez is a true folk artist with a primitive flavoring. He has lived in Miami, AZ all,his life and undoubtably will remain there for the remainder of it. Since he doesn't drive, he walks up and down the half vacant streets, often stopping at at the local stores to buy something of interest to him. Religious icons, animal books, postcards of all sorts...just about anything that he can carry back to his apt in one of several pastic bags he always seems to be carring. He can often be seen drawing in his sketchbook or on loose leaf paper, which he delights in showing to anyone who takes the time to listen and look. About a year ago Mark had a show of his pen and ink drawings of the local buildings (see show archives) at Copper Mine Picture Cafe and having had a successful experience with that event he has gone on to work on this current series of mostly animal theme paintings. They are full of childlike qualities of fantasy that reflect simple pleasurable moments. and states of mind. .
